Good news everyone!
Hi folks. Some of you may recall that way back in 2022 TPATH wrote a brief to the Nepali Supreme Court in support of Rukshana Kapali’s petition to have her gender marker documentation changed consistently to F. We’re happy to report that the court case has been successful with “Nepal’s Supreme Court determin[ing] that a transgender woman can be recognised as a woman on legal documents without having to submit to medical verification (Lee, 2024).” While this case applies narrowly to Kapali, we are hopeful that it will pave the way for other binary trans people in Nepal to have their documentation more easily and consistently amended. TPATH is tremendously proud to have provided a brief in support of this ruling.
